We learn new things about the people, products and solutions from the region. We discuss, listen and ask questions. In between, we take two culinary breaks and enjoy the food together. The event is moderated by journalist Dorothea Heintze, with NDR chef and Hobenköök chef Thomas Sampl also in attendance.
About the winery Bianka & Daniel Schmitt
A winery in Rheinhessen is bringing a breath of fresh air: Bianka and Daniel Schmitt don’t do things by halves. They didn’t just take over the family winery – they radically reimagined it. Biodynamic, consistent, full of character. This isn’t a place of production, it’s a place of creation.
What they do is craftsmanship – but also attitude. Chemicals in the vineyard? Under no circumstances. Instead: living soil, strong vines, a genuine expression of nature. The two see the vineyard as a complex ecosystem and treat it with respect. You can taste that – in every drop.
Their wines are not smooth, mainstream representatives, but lively personalities. Sometimes wild, sometimes playful, but always authentic. Matured on the lees, in amphorae or oak barrels – patience is required. But who wants quick wine when you can have character?
With varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Noir, Muscat and their very own cuvées, they demonstrate what is possible when one thinks and works without compromise. Their memberships in Demeter, Vinnatur and Renaissance des Appellations are a reflection of their consistent convictions.
